Job description

The UVA Health's TCV Surgery Step Down Unit is seeking an APP for a challenging and rewarding role caring for patients post-major surgery. Our APPs evaluate and treat patients primarily in a post-operative setting and contribute to learner education. Ideal candidates possess excellent communication skills, critical thinking, adaptability, and utilize medical decision-making daily. This is a full-time position with rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Department preference: AGACNP or PA-C.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Collaborating with the medical director, management, nursing, and interprofessional teams to facilitate patient care.
  2. Using independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiating medical processes as credentialed.
  3. Performing comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency interventions.
  4. Formulating diagnoses, identifying problems, and communicating with the healthcare team.
  5. Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies.
  6. Performing procedures within scope and credentialing.
  7. Ordering medications and therapies per regulations.
  8. Referring patients to other providers as needed.
  9. Evaluating patient responses to interventions.
  10. Providing education and support to patients and families.
  11. Participating in on-call duties.
  12. Managing patients according to UVA policies.
  13. Reporting critical health information to authorities.
  14. Meeting quality standards and participating in committees and educational activities.
  15. Supporting professional practice and development.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing or PA program with a master's degree.
  • Virginia licensure or eligibility as an APP.
  • Current BLS certification; PALS/NRP and ACLS as required.
Physical Demands:

Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, and the ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to various hazards including infectious materials.
