UVA Health System is seeking a Full-time Inpatient Orthopedic Surgery APP to manage patients in an acute care unit. The role includes providing comprehensive clinical leadership, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and engaging in research activities. UOVUNIUSREXTERNALENUS Full-time Inpatient Orthopedic Surgery APP responsible for managing patients with orthopedic joint, trauma, spine, and hand conditions on an acute care unit. Must possess exceptional communication skills and collaborate effectively with team members to coordinate care, admissions, discharges, and ensure excellent communication across inpatient, outpatient, and rehab or nursing facilities. Provides patient care within a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, case managers, residents, fellows, and surgeons. Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plan implementation, including ordering and interpreting lab and diagnostic tests, consulting with team members, and educating patients and families.
Clinical:
• Provide comprehensive clinical and organizational leadership, performing history and physical assessments, documenting findings, and developing treatment plans.
• Prescribe interventions, initiate specialty referrals, and evaluate clinical pathways.
• Collaborate on patient admissions, transfers, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
• Recognize urgent situations and initiate life-saving interventions.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, respecting age-specific needs and cultural diversity.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to clinical standards.
• Perform procedures after demonstrated competency.
Educational:
• Serve as a resource and mentor for team members and students.
• Provide evidence-based education and outreach.
• Support educational standards and initiatives.
Leadership:
• Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and leadership within the team and community.
• Mentor and develop colleagues and advance the role of APPs.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental and institutional projects.
Quality/Stewardship/Outcomes:
• Lead and support quality assurance, performance improvement, and research activities.
• Use evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Develop and evaluate clinical pathways and protocols.
• Participate in performance measurement and outcome analysis.
Research:
• Engage in research activities and evidence-based practice analysis.
• Ensure research standards are met across disciplines.
Professional Development:
• Maintain licensure, certifications, and practice agreements.
• Pursue ongoing education and professional growth opportunities.
• Serve on committees and participate in academic activities.
Position Compensation Range: $84,364.80 - $134,992.00 annually.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred.
• Virginia licensure or eligibility as an APP.
• Current BLS required; PALS/NRP and ACLS as applicable.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift 20-50 lbs., and work in potentially hazardous conditions.
