Job description

UVA Health Medical Center seeks a highly motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our inpatient Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and Bariatric Surgical Services team.

This full-time position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about inpatient surgical patient care, collaborating closely with attending HPB and bariatric surgeons, resident physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to manage a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities include:

1. Managing inpatient ward care for patients undergoing HPB and bariatric surgery.
2. Overseeing patients readmitted due to postoperative complications.
3. Coordinating peri-operative care for surgical oncology, bariatric, and minimally invasive surgery patients.

Prior inpatient surgical APP experience is preferred but not required. Familiarity with the EPIC electronic health record is advantageous. Team members typically work four 10-hour shifts per week and play a key role in maintaining high-quality patient care and interdisciplinary communication.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive clinical and organizational leadership in patient care.
• Perform history and physical assessments, document findings, and interpret diagnostics.
• Develop and evaluate treatment plans, prescribe interventions, and initiate consultations.
• Recognize urgent situations and respond appropriately.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, respecting age-specific needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to clinical standards.

Educational and Leadership Responsibilities:

• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for APP students and colleagues.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in research activities.
• Demonstrate leadership in role development and community engagement.

Professional Development and Standards:

• Maintain licensure, certifications, and ongoing education.
• Participate in departmental committees, presentations, and accreditation activities.

Position Details:

Compensation Range: $93,142.40 - $149,032.00 annually.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's Degree as an NP or PA.
• One to two years of APP experience preferred.
• Virginia licensure or eligibility, BLS, PALS/NRP, ACLS as required.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged standing, travel, lifting 20-50 lbs., exposure to chemicals and infectious materials.
