Job description

UVA Health Medical Center seeks a highly motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dynamic inpatient colorectal surgery team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about surgical patient care, providing the chance to collaborate closely with attending colorectal surgeons and resident physicians to manage a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities include:

1. Direct inpatient ward care for individuals undergoing colorectal surgery, patients readmitted with postoperative complications, and those receiving non-operative treatment for colorectal conditions.
2. Collaborate with the medical team to facilitate patient care and management throughout the healthcare system.
3. Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes, as credentialed by UVA Health System.
4. Perform and document health histories and physical assessments, including emergency interventions as needed.
5. Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
6. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies such as x-rays and laboratory tests.
7. Perform procedures within the scope of practice and UVA credentialing.
8. Order medications and treatments following Virginia regulations.
9. Request consultations and initiate referrals to specialists.
10. Evaluate patient responses to treatments and interventions.
11. Provide education and support to patients and families regarding disease and treatment plans.
12. Participate in on-call responsibilities and clinical education of students and residents.
13. Adhere to policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.
14. Maintain accurate coding and documentation, and pursue ongoing professional development.

Position Compensation Range:

$93,142.40 - $149,032.00 annually

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
• Virginia licensure or eligibility as an Advanced Practice Provider.
• Current BLS certification; PALS/NRP and ACLS as required.
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 100 lbs and exposure to clinical hazards.
