Position Overview

This position serves as a Medical Support Assistant in the Radiology department at the Indianapolis VA Medical Center. Responsibilities include scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments for Diagnostic Radiology procedures such as CT Scan, Ultrasound, PET/CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine.

The duties of the Radiology Department Advanced Medical Support Assistant (Adv MSA) include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined above.

Requirements
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy).
  • Experience: Six months of clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Education: One year above high school.
  • Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education that qualifies for entry-level positions.

Current VHA employees may qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if they meet the criteria.

Grade Determinations

GS-6 - Advanced Medical Support Assistant

In addition to basic requirements, applicants must have:

  • One year of experience at the GS-5 level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  1. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a wide range of medical clinicians across disciplines.
  2. Ability to independently prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines and comply with policies and regulations.
  3. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external customers.
  4. Advanced knowledge of healthcare processes related to scheduling and access to care.
  5. Knowledge of policies and procedures affecting patient flow and administrative functions.
  6. Proficiency in medical terminology.

Physical Requirements

The work is sedentary, primarily sitting, with some walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items. No special physical demands are required.
