Summary
The purpose of the position is to serve as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) under HBU within the Health Administration Service (HAS). The incumbent serves as a specialist on eligibility and enrollment issues, providing administrative and technical support to veterans, their families, and medical center staff regarding benefits eligibility and enrollment processes.
Duties
The incumbent interviews patients applying for benefits, manages eligibility and enrollment of Veterans into the VA healthcare system, processes applications received via multiple channels, verifies eligibility using various tools and documentation, and maintains accurate records. The role requires extensive knowledge of policies, procedures, and systems like VIS, DPRIS, VBMS, and SHARE. Responsibilities also include updating patient data, managing insurance information, and ensuring timely registration of new veterans.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, with various shifts (7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm). This position is not virtual.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen, proficient in English, and subject to background checks and physical examinations. Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination is required.
Qualifications
Experience or education requirements include six months of administrative work, or one year of college, or a combination thereof. For GS-6 level, at least one year of experience at the GS-5 level is required, along with demonstrated KSAs such as collaboration, organization, communication, and knowledge of healthcare processes and terminology.
Physical Requirements: Sedentary work with some walking, standing, and carrying light items.
Education: Must submit transcripts if education is used to qualify. Only accredited degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are accepted.
