Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a skilled Medical Coder to support the Health Information Management-Coding department. You will assign codes, analyze documentation, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of medical coding experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS. AHIMA credentials or CPC/CMC are preferred. This is a full-time on-site role in Rochester, NY.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of medical coder experience.
• Associate's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Functions as an advanced coder in abstraction and analysis of medical documentation and assigns appropriate codes.
• Reviews and resolves coding denials and corrects errors.
• Abstracts data and reviews codes for accuracy; performs system edits as needed.
• Responds to coding information requests and communicates issues to providers and leadership.
• Consults with internal/external stakeholders for clarification when documentation is incomplete.
