The ideal candidate has a proven track record of taking complex, manual business processes - the way non-technical teams do their work - and replacing them with reliable, automated tools within the Jira ecosystem. If you have hands‑on mastery of advanced Jira Automation (including smart values, custom webhooks, complex JQL, and conditional logic) to orchestrate cross-functional work, this role offers direct ownership of high-impact operational systems.

Our client is an engineering and operational organization focused on eliminating manual friction, handoff delays, and repetitive administrative work across its cross-functional teams. This initiative centers on practical business process automation - delivering intuitive, automated Jira workflows that non-developers use daily to run operations.

They value builders who take total ownership of process replacement: observing manual workflows, designing cleaner automated replacements in Jira, building the underlying logic, and successfully handing finished automation products over to non-technical business users.

Tasks and Deliverables

• Business Process Automation: Identify manual business workflows, map target-state processes, and build automated Jira-based replacements handed directly to non-developers to run.
• Advanced Jira Orchestration: Author and maintain advanced Jira automation rules utilizing smart values, complex conditional branching, JQL, and custom field logic.
• API & Webhook Integration: Build inbound and outbound webhooks to connect Jira with external systems, ensuring seamless data flow across platforms.
• Scripting & Custom Logic: Utilize Jira's REST API (and potentially plugins like ScriptRunner) to execute logic that goes beyond out-of-the-box Jira UI capabilities.
• Documentation & Handoff: Produce clear, operational documentation, user guides, and workflow diagrams to ensure smooth adoption and low-maintenance execution for business users.

Required Experience

• Non-Negotiable Core Screening Requirement: Candidates MUST show explicit, past experience designing and building business process automations inside Jira that non-developer business units run (standard Agile Jira Administration, basic board creation, or Scrum Master experience will not qualify).
• Advanced Jira Automation: Hands-on mastery of Jira Automation features, specifically requiring deep experience with complex smart values, multi-project execution rules, and conditional logic.
• Jira API & Webhooks: Direct experience interacting with the Jira REST API and configuring webhooks to trigger external actions or ingest third-party data.
• Scripting Proficiency: Strong proficiency in a glue language (like Python, Node.js, or Groovy/ScriptRunner) to handle complex API integrations and custom automation scripts.
• Systems Thinking: Ability to look at a messy, manual human process and translate it into a clean, automated Jira workflow.
