Imec USA in Cambridge, Massachusetts seeks a System Integration Engineer R&D to join the ISSA group, integrating mechanics, hardware, software, electronics, optics and sensors into advanced laboratory instrumentation and prototype systems.

You will translate needs into system requirements, refine architectures throughout development, and collaborate with experts to ensure robust, scalable integration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Instrumentation, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in instrumentation development, systems engineering, or system integration.
  • Experience integrating complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Experience with electronics, automation, embedded systems, and hardware control.
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsabilités

  • Build and integrate laboratory instrumentation prototypes incorporating mechanics, hardware and software components, electronics, optics, and sensors.
  • Interface with external vendors for component selection and customization, ensuring subsystem compatibility.
  • Analyze complex technical problems and workflows to define prototype scope.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into clear system requirements and architectures with technical leads.
  • Structure, refine, and assess system requirements and interfaces through the lifecycle.
  • Follow project timelines and communicate progress to partners and funders.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans with leads.
  • Plan and execute test and verification with application scientists to meet performance requirements.
  • Support trade-off analyses and decisions across competing requirements.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation for development and knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, application scientists, data scientists.
  • Adapt quickly to evolving technical requirements and new insights.
