Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine is seeking an on-site Technical Assistant to support laboratory operations at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. The role involves performing moderately complex testing under supervision, entering results in the LIS, and assisting with specimen handling and QC tasks.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, plus two years in a clinical setting with data processing and specimen handling experience. An AS degree or medical assistant training is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years in a clinical environment with data processing/specimen handling experience.
• Graduate of health/medical assistant or similar training program.
• Must meet CLIA 88 personnel requirements for moderate complexity testing.
• Proficient in reading/writing English and communicating with staff.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information System (LIS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs CLIA classified moderately complex laboratory testing under direct supervision and records results.
• Enters results into the Laboratory Information System.
• Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions and records troubleshooting.
• Prepares reagents/controls and calibrates pipettes/thermometers per SOPs.
• Collects and/or prepares specimens for analysis with accurate labeling.
• Maintains inventory and restocks supplies; notifies supervisor of shortages.
• Provides orientation or training to new employees/students and assists with competency reviews.
