Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated Adoptions Specialist to join our Sunnyslope Campus team, working Thursday through Monday, 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM. If you are passionate about matching shelter pets with loving adopters, this role keeps you active on your feet and engaged in compassionate care.

You will greet adopters, guide them through the adoption process, and educate them on the pet's history and needs while promoting our pet products.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six months to one year of prior work experience.
  • Experience in customer service or animal welfare preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately.
  • Must be able to learn and demonstrate how to handle animals safely and humanely.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Create online pet profiles and drum up interest in the pet.
  • Greet potential adopters and escort them through the kennels.
  • Assist in the matchmaking adoption process.
  • Educate adopters on the pet's history, medical and behavioral insights.
  • Suggest supplies in our retail store to start them out on the right foot.

A Day in the Life:

At the Arizona Humane Society, our Adoption Specialists are experience makers! From creating online pet profiles to drum up interest in the pet to greeting our potential adopters and escorting them through our kennels to assisting in the matchmaking adoption process, they aim to provide a consistent, positive, and excellent experience every time! In this role, you will effectively assess the needs of potential adopters and match them with pets most suited for their lifestyle and preferences while educating them on their chosen pet(s) known history including all medical and behavioral insights we have acquired during their time in the shelter. Ensuring the adopter is educated about the pet's needs, including the recommendation of supplies in our retail store to start them out on the right foot is also an essential part of this role.

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma / GED

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold, and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander.
