Susquehanna Health & Wellness Center in Columbia, PA seeks an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Registered Nurse (RN) to lead the nursing service, supervise evening shifts, and participate in admissions during on-call hours. The role emphasizes compliance, staff development, and quality improvement in a 4-star facility.

The ADON will work with the DON to oversee nursing operations, ensure regulatory readiness, and support patient-centered care across shifts while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other health care facility.
• Must have at least six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents.
• Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities.
• Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check and physical / drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Assist the DON in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
• Ensure that reference material maintained at the nurses' stations are current.
• Recommend to the DON written material to assist the nursing service department in meeting day-to-day needs.
• Assist in developing and implementing a nursing service organization structure.
• Make written and oral reports or recommendations to the DON concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
• Periodically review the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. Make revisions as needed.
• Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
• Assist the resident and Discharge Planning Coordinator in planning the nursing services portion of the resident's discharge plan.
• Monitor the Facility's QI, QM and survey reports and provide the DON with recommendations to improve areas.
• Assist the DON in obtaining staffing information that must be posted daily.
• In the absence of the DON, participate in committees of the Facility.
• Assist in preparing reports of the nursing service programs to submit to committees.
• Assist in recruitment and selection of nursing service personnel.
• Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure proper performance.
• Monitor absenteeism to ensure adequate staffing.
• Review complaints and grievances from department personnel and report.
• Provide the DON with information relative to nursing needs and service capacity.
• Report medication errors and assist in corrective actions.
• Assist in universal precautions in-service training.
• Assist in annual in-service training programs (OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control).
• Assist in developing advance directive in-service training programs for staff and community.
• Assist support services in developing in-service training for nursing service.
• Develop safety standards for nursing service.
• Assist the DON and Infection Control RN in identifying tasks with exposure risk.
• Assist in planning and scheduling MDS and RAPs/Triggers.
• Assist in scheduling care plans for committee meetings.
• Participate in budgeting for the nursing service department.
