Job summary

Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn is seeking an Intake Specialist to welcome patients, collect demographics and financial data, and prepare initial charts and encounter forms. You will support cash flow procedures in the department and ensure accuracy while upholding patient-centered care standards.

Responsibilities include interviewing patients, advising on sliding scale fees, collecting fees, and maintaining documentation and policy adherence in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • High School graduation or equivalent required.
  • Typing: 25+ WPM.
  • Must pass alphanumeric/Customer Service Test; knowledge of AHS Nextgen, SCI strongly preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; English proficiency as required by the position.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews new patients and collects/digits demographic and financial information.
  • Advises patients on sliding scale fee information and obtains signatures on general treatment consent forms.
  • Prepares new charts and explains Patient's Bill of Rights; provides clinic guidance at information desk.
  • Processes patients for revisit and updates data; collects patient fees as indicated.
  • Organizes data by date in the system and routes incomplete forms for action.
  • Manages service charges and cash transactions; issues receipts and maintains cash controls.
  • Handles transportation vouchers for clinic patients and documents all transactions.
  • Maintains departmental policies, safety standards, and infection control; demonstrates professional customer service.

Overview

Responsible for intake of new and revisit patients, collection and update of demographic and financial data, computer entry, and preparation of initial chart and encounter forms. Responsible for cash flow procedures in the Department.

Responsibilities
  • Interviews new patients. Collects and enters into computer system demographic and financial information necessary to initiate patient chart and visit-related forms
  • Advises patients of sliding scale fee information; obtains signatures on general treatment consent form; prepares new chart. Advises patient about Patient's Bill of Rights and provides clinic guide (at information desk)
  • Processes patients for revisit, updates patient data in system; provides encounter forms and collects patient fees as indicated
  • Organizes by date and enters into the computer system data from completed patient encounter forms; refers incomplete forms (e.g., lacking physician signature, diagnosis) to supervisor for action
  • Collects Ambulatory Care Center service-related charges from clinic patients, issues receipts, and is accountable for financial transactions and cash control procedures
  • Issues transportation money to authorized clinic patients and documents all transactions including vouchers for car service for clinic patients
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations
Qualifications

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position. Must pass customer service test.
