Job summary

The Cancer Registry Administrative Assistant at Maimonides Medical Center supports the Cancer Center’s mission and adheres to prescribed registry procedures under supervision. You will collect information, compile records, and assist the Cancer Committee and Cancer Conferences with secretarial tasks.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, NCRA certification (or eligibility), and at least one year of clinical HIM experience; strong medical terminology knowledge and English

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • NCRA certification or eligible to sit for exam.
  • One year of clinical experience in a Health Information Management Department.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology is important.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies new cancer cases diagnosed at Maimonides Medical Center and Clinics by review of medical records, laboratory pathology reports and other diagnostic test results
  • Request medical record charts from the Health Information Administration
  • Annual follow-up by phone or letter on patients after discharge to obtain end results information, quality of life data and length of survival
  • Work closely with cancer program leadership in providing support and assurance that the cancer program is in compliance with current standards of the American College of Surgeons for a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program
  • Maintain the minutes for all Tumor Board Conferences in the institution
  • Updates and contributes to the maintenance of the Cancer Registry procedures manual
  • Maintains the confidentiality, security and quality control of data stored in the cancer registry files

Overview

The Cancer Registry Administrative Assistant represents and supports the mission, values, and goals of the Maimonides Cancer Center. Under general supervision and according to prescribed Cancer Registry procedures, collects information and compiles records relating to patients with all malignant cancers and some benign tumors. He/She works under the supervision of the Cancer Registry Supervisor provides secretarial and clerical support to the Cancer Committee, Cancer Conferences and Cancer Registry

Qualifications
Education:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

Possession of a certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association or a candidate eligible for the examination.

Experience

One year of clinical experience working in a Health Information Management Department.

Skills
Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
Pay Range

USD $67,000.00 - USD $76,000.00 /Yr.
