Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The clinical professional is responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care at the most appropriate level for patients, optimizing their benefit/resource utilization.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
2. Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
3. Perform benefit eligibility checks to confirm active patient benefits at admission and communicate this to the business office and the patient or family.
4. Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate recommendations for pending referrals.
5. Coordinate admissions and transfers from referral sources and between levels of care within the facility.
6. Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
7. Communicate projected admissions promptly to internal representatives.
8. Ensure receipt of all relevant clinical information prior to admission when possible.
9. Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with admitting physicians, and communicate disposition recommendations.
10. Prepare and maintain accurate medical records to support authorization at the requested level of care.
11. Complete pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor timeframes.
12. Admit patients in the registration system, complete all forms, and ensure consent is obtained.
13. Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers, addressing complaints and prioritizing patient safety.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field required where permitted by law.
• Master's degree in social services (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.
• At least three years of experience in mental/behavioral health preferred.

• Experience with managed care pre-certification, level of care assessments, and utilization preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

• Current licensure as required for the clinical specialty (e.g., RN license, CAC, or other licensed counseling/therapy credential).
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certifications required (training provided upon hire).
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.
