Overview

East Tennessee Behavioral Health is hiring a Night PRN Admission Counselor.

Purpose Statement

Clinical professional responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care for patients and optimal resource utilization.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Perform benefit eligibility checks and communicate benefits to the business office and patients.
• Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel for appropriate referrals.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers within the facility.
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
• Communicate projected admissions promptly.
• Ensure all clinical information is received prior to admission when possible.
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with physicians, and communicate recommendations.
• Prepare and maintain medical record documentation for payor authorization.
• Complete pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor guidelines.
• Admit patient in the registration system and complete all forms.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers, prioritizing patient safety.

Other Functions

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field required (if allowed by state).
• Master's degree in a related field or RN preferred.
• Three or more years of experience in mental/behavioral health preferred.
• Experience with managed care pre-certification, level of care assessments, and utilization preferred.

Licenses/Designations/Certifications

• Current licensure (RN, CAC, or other clinical license) as required by the state.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required.
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility.
