Overview

East Tennessee Behavioral Health is hiring a Night PRN Admission Counselor

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Clinical professional responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care and appropriate resource utilization for patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Perform benefit eligibility checks to ensure benefits are active at admission and communicate this to the business office and the patient or their significant other.
• Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate referral recommendations.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers within the facility and from referral sources.
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
• Communicate projected admissions promptly to internal teams.
• Ensure receipt of all clinical information prior to admission when possible.
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with admitting physicians, and communicate disposition recommendations.
• Prepare and maintain accurate medical records to support authorization requests.
• Complete pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor timeframes.
• Admit patients in the registration system, complete forms, and ensure consent documentation.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; address patient concerns and prioritize safety.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience/Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field required (if allowed by state).
• Master's degree in social services (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.
• At least three years’ experience in mental/behavioral health preferred.

• Experience with managed care pre-certification, level of care assessments, and utilization review preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current licensure relevant to the clinical specialty, e.g., RN license, CAC, or other licensed counseling or therapy credential.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility policies.
