Job description

Dedicated to student recruitment and enrollment success, the Admissions Counselor serves as a primary liaison between Angelo State University and prospective students, families, educators, and community partners. Responsible for managing an assigned territory, the role coordinates recruitment initiatives, represents the university at on- and off-campus events, and guides students through the admissions process. Success in this position requires strong relationship-building skills, a commitment to exceptional service, and the ability to communicate the academic and student life opportunities that make Angelo State University an institution of choice.

  • Lead a successful territory recruitment plan by: providing exceptional customer service to prospective students, their families, and key partners at high schools and community colleges; analyzing application and enrollment trends to inform recruitment strategies; adjusting outreach efforts based on data and feedback; communicating with students and families in a timely and professional manner; represent Angelo State University – traveling to recruitment events and delivering presentations to prospective and admitted students, parents, and other target populations
  • Support prospective students by: staying well-versed in admissions standards, placement tests, and academic requirements; serving as a knowledgeable resource on FAFSA deadlines and processes; possessing a broad understanding of university programs and services to make appropriate referrals; communicating effectively with different audiences; ensuring students are informed of deadlines, procedures, and eligibility criteria
  • Take a proactive approach to student engagement by using our Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ) system to: identify and connect with prospective students using various communication methods (text, email, phone, virtual meetings); keep outreach efforts organized by logging interactions promptly and accurately; guide outreach strategies to high schools and community colleges
  • Build and maintain relationships with high school and community college partners by: sharing timely, relevant information that supports students through every stage of their journey; staying informed about academic calendars for target area and how they impact outreach; identifying Angelo State University key services for prospective and current students and connecting students to the appropriate department when necessary; sharing relevant updates with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the student experience
  • Play an active role in creating a welcoming and high-performing team environment within the Office of Admissions by: supporting campus visit programs through presentations, guided campus tours, carrying out assigned duties during recruitment events, and conducting after tour meetings; responding to inquiries via phone, email, and text with professionalism and care in a timely manner; participating in meetings, committees, and special projects as needed; assisting with training and professional development of fellow team members; collaborating on team initiatives, assisting team members as needed (specifically during busy travel season), and performing other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Undergraduate admissions policies, procedures, eligibility requirements, and enrollment practices.
  • University academic programs, student services, campus resources, and student life opportunities.
  • Financial aid processes, including FAFSA requirements, deadlines, and supporting documentation.
  • Customer relationship management ( CRM ) systems, such as Salesforce, and data-informed recruitment strategies.
Skills :
  • Building relationships and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Verbal and written communication, including presentations and public speaking.
  • Organization, time management, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analyzing recruitment data, identifying trends, and recommending solutions.
  • Using Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual communication platforms.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing recruitment and outreach events.

  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a student-centered approach to service.
  • Travel and work evenings and weekends as needed to support recruitment activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel for several weeks in the fall and in the spring and some evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • Master’s degree in student counseling, education, business or Public Relations, or other related field.
  • Knowledge of Texas and Angelo State University.
  • Experience working in an admissions office, operating audio/visual/video equipment, and computer experience.
  • Extensive experience in recruiting, public relations, sales, marketing, or related fields.
  • Ability to learn admissions and financial aid requirements and deadlines for high school and transfer students; general knowledge about all Angelo State University programs, majors, services, their requirements, restrictions and costs.
