Job description

Prince George County Department of Social Services is currently accepting applications for the position of Administrative Support Specialist II. This front desk position involves a wide spectrum of duties, including:

  1. Providing clerical support to Benefits Programs, Family Services, and Administrative staff.
  2. Greeting walk-in customers and answering or forwarding calls to appropriate staff.
  3. Processing and scanning daily mail, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of applications.
  4. Scheduling appointments for clients applying for benefits.
  5. Entering data through Application Registration into VaCMS.
  6. Preparing reports, typing, word processing, and data processing duties.
  7. Assisting clients and maintaining confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and secretarial techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
  • The ability to type accurately at a reasonable speed and perform arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to interact positively with difficult or hostile members of the public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and the public.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of department programs and policies is preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation, including courses in typing and clerical experience, is acceptable.

Work may occasionally be required outside of normal business hours to meet client needs.
