Job Description

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy is seeking an Administrative Specialist in the Drinking Water Program. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and compliance of public water systems (PWS). This position is responsible for managing PWS emergency contact lists, ensuring that all relevant personnel are updated and accessible in critical situations. This teammate also facilitates changes to the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) application, ensuring accurate data entry and timely updates to maintain regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role involves coordinating water system permitting processes, supporting the team in the review and approval of new permits and modifications. Through attention to detail and organizational skills, our Administrative Specialist contributes to the overall safety and reliability of drinking water systems.

Job Duties
  • Maintain and update emergency contact list information for water system operators and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Organize and maintain files related to emergency contacts, SDWIS changes, and water system permits. Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct efficient and accurate data entry of updates in the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). Implement and manage compliance tracking programs utilizing a variety of software systems.
  • Support the permitting process for new water systems and modifications to existing systems. Prepare and review permit applications, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate between water system operators, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate communication and information sharing.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Drinking Water team including scheduling meetings and managing correspondence.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: At least one year of post high school coursework or experience in: administration, office management, accounting, finance, planning, policy analysis and implementation, administrative/management analysis, operations research, program evaluation, research, or similar fields or in a field related to the programs or functions of the employing agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent typing and computer skills; Ability to quickly learn a wide range of software applications; Ability to manage work in a fast-paced environment; Ability to follow detailed protocols closely
