Specific Job Duties & Tasks

  • Provide administrative support duties including SDS Welcome Center front desk management, scheduling, and general assistance.
  • Oversee office reception to ensure customers are attended to in a timely manner, in person and over the phone and refer inquiries to appropriate office staff.
  • Monitor accounts and expenditures for SDS.
  • Reconcile statements for SDS.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for easy access and reliable data.
  • Assist as needed in the creation of semester reports for SDS to support future planning and decision making.
  • Greet visitors (including students, faculty, and staff) as front line.
  • Monitors general email and phone accounts. Determines what communication warrants collaboration with SDS Administration or others.
  • May assist in the coordination/preparation of strategic plans and associated reports in support of the department.
  • Assist as needed with gathering information and data, and preparing materials and reports for special initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Administrative experience (typically 6 months – 1 year) typically involving billing and financial accounts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to effectively resolve conflicts or complaints.
  • Proficiency with standard office computer applications, preferably Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a variety of individuals of all backgrounds and perspectives, and ability to model a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service experience in a similar professional, high-traffic environment.


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of University of Iowa practices, policies, and accounting systems.
  • Experience using automated business systems.
