SU-AITC is a national, NIA-supported center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences that advances responsible, AI-assisted precision interventions for older adults, including those at risk for or living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). Spanning Stanford and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, the SU-AITC provides the leadership, resources, and infrastructure that translate research prototypes into validated digital-health technologies and clinical adoption. The Executive Director leads the planning and operations of the center across both sites; serves as subject matter expert for human-subjects research, single-IRB (sIRB), and clinical-trial regulatory compliance; evaluates programs, policies, and procedures; analyzes trends and advises the Co-Directors; develops and oversees center budgets; develops and manages the center’s outreach strategy, signature events, and fundraising activities; assesses training needs and develops training; and represents the center at the university level and to the NIA, the AITC Coordinating Center, peer AITCs, industry partners, and philanthropic funders.

Duties include:
  • Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
  • Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
  • Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
  • Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
  • May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
  • May direct and/or supervise staff.

  • Demonstrated clinical trial experience, including the operational and regulatory aspects of planning, launching, and monitoring trials.

  • Hands-on IRB experience, including single-IRB (sIRB) and/or fast-responding IRB processes, and clinical-trial-related regulatory requirements (ClinicalTrials.gov, DSMB/DSMP, and NIA CROMS reporting).

  • Strong human-subjects research knowledge and experience, ideally including vulnerable or older-adult populations.

  • Experience leading large-scale, multi-site research programs, including budget development and oversight, and organizing complex events and convenings.

  • Experience developing outreach strategy and planning fundraising or development events with donors, sponsors, or industry and foundation partners.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to represent a program at the university level and to coordinate across institutions, centers, and disciplines, including peer centers and AITCs.

  • Familiarity with NIH/NIA grant administration, progress reporting, and federal compliance.
