About the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals

The Board is a key part of the City’s land use, development, and construction regulation system. It operates independently to review zoning variance and special permit applications, appeals, revocations, modifications, and waivers from laws affecting development throughout the five boroughs.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and with independent judgment, the Administrative Manager will:

  • Maintain the Chair/Commissioner’s calendar and schedule meetings.
  • Update information in BSA databases.
  • Manage office functions, files, and special projects.
  • Generate and distribute correspondence.
  • Support project managers administratively.
  • Prepare and publish the annual bulletin per NYC Charter.

Only current permanent Administrative Managers or those reachable on the Civil Service list may apply.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree with four years of full-time administrative experience, including 18 months in a supervisory role, or
  • Associate degree with five years of similar experience, including supervisory experience, or
  • High school diploma with six years of similar experience, including supervisory experience, or
  • Equivalent education/experience with at least 18 months supervisory experience.
Preferred Skills

Excellent communication, research, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and virtual meeting platforms.

Additional Information

This position is open to qualified persons with disabilities through the 55-a Program. Applicants should indicate interest accordingly.

Eligible employees may qualify for federal and state loan forgiveness programs. Residency within NYC or nearby counties is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
