Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and Secretary to the Board of Trustees

Location: Greenwood School District 50 – Greenwood, SC

Reports To

Superintendent of Schools

Work Schedule

240 Days / 7.5 hours per day

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as the primary administrative support for the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion in all matters related to district leadership and governance.
  • Manage the Superintendent’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Prepare and disseminate Board meeting agendas, packets, and minutes in compliance with legal and district guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison between the Superintendent/Board and internal or external stakeholders, including district staff, parents, community members, and government agencies.
  • Coordinate logistics and communications for Board meetings, retreats, and special events.
  • Maintain organized records and files related to the Superintendent's office and Board governance.
  • Handle correspondence, reports, and communications on behalf of the Superintendent and Board of Trustees.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of required reports to the State Department of Education and other agencies.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Provide administrative support for district-level projects and initiatives as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May supervise clerical support staff or assist in oversight of specific projects as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business administration, office management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative support experience, preferably in a school district, government, or executive office setting.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, policy manuals, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, Board members, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including budgeting and expense tracking.

Reasoning Ability

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.

Other Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and modern office technologies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, and the community.
