  • Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Job Description

The Adjunct – Welding position provides quality instruction andmaintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, withmajor emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluatingstudents. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitorsteaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by theDepartment Chair, or other leadership members. The incumbent mustexhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complicatedmaterial.

Instruction & Student Learning
  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled.
  • Designs curriculum embracing diversity, in all forms, to fostertalent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies,with an understanding of the socio-cultural issues of traditionallyunderrepresented groups.
  • Considers individual differences of students in order to designand support a range of appropriate learning activities.
  • Participates in the identification of students with academic orother needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly tostudents the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.
  • Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance withdepartmental policies. Maintains attendance records, determines andsubmits grades timely, and in accordance with established policiesand procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedbackas well as other relevant information to students throughout thesemester.
  • Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporatesdepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructorrequirements.
  • Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with theprescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Engages in periodic meetings with the department, LeadInstructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.
Student Engagement & Advisement
  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
  • Uses technology to assist in communication with students.Encourages a sense of community among students for learning bothinside and outside the classroom.
  • Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 7 years of full-time employment as a building tradesindustrial/commercial welder
  • Associates degree or Journeyperson’s certificate in any of thefollowing: Sheet metal, Ironwork, Plumbing & Pipefitting,Boilermaker or Millwright is strongly preferred. Evidence of thesuccessful completion of a federally registered apprenticeshipprogram in any of the referenced trades. Previous teachingexperience is strongly preferred.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree or Journeyperson’s certificate in any of thefollowing: Sheet metal, Ironwork, Plumbing & Pipefitting,Boilermaker or Millwright is strongly preferred.
  • Evidence of the successful completion of a federally registeredapprenticeship program in any of the referenced trades.
  • Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.

*An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework andexperience may qualify a candidate.

$56.88 per contact hour
