Job description

Overview

Aims Community College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member in Welding to teach and support the welding program. The faculty member will conduct assignments and co-curricular activities consistent with the college’s mission and values. The primary purpose is to teach, with additional responsibilities in scholarly/creative activities (professional development) and service to the college.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction on a wide variety of welding and cutting processes in accordance with industry standards and department practices.
Supervise students to ensure the safe and proper use of the facility, equipment, and supplies.
Evaluate student work and assign grades.
Assist in the basic maintenance and repair of welding program equipment.
Participate in professional development and training activities to develop and maintain skills and knowledge for instructional excellence and program improvement.
Assist full-time faculty with program and curriculum review, revision, development, and assessment of learning.
Utilize effective verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrate commitment to quality craftsmanship and establish positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration.
Work as a team member with cooperation and flexibility; be self-directed and self-motivated.
Participate in advisory committee meetings and activities as required.
Assist in developing relationships with business, industry, and community members.
Implement department, division, and institutional goals; apply the College’s mission, diversity commitments, and related provisions.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Welding Department Chair or Academic Dean.

Teaching

Interacting with students to provide opportunities to learn, creating conditions that facilitate learning, and using techniques and methods that promote learning. Key abilities include:

Instructional Delivery: clear communication and an effective learning environment.
Provide effective and high-quality instruction of the subject being taught.
Apply learning-centered educational practices with defined student learning outcomes.
Provide diverse learning activities tied to outcomes.
Use assessment data to improve instruction and participate in college-wide dialogue about teaching and learning.
Develop and refine department curriculum to stay current in pedagogy and content.

Professional Obligations And Development

Implement department, division, and institutional goals as assigned.
Perform faculty advising duties.
Meet all classes, submit grades, course syllabi, and other required documents on time.
Manage classroom and lab facilities as appropriate.
Keep accurate attendance and grade records.
Acquire and/or maintain certifications as necessary.
Create teaching methodologies and instructional designs that facilitate student learning from a learner-centered perspective.
Complete coursework related to teaching assignment.

Minimum Qualifications

Expertise in welding and cutting processes: OAW, OFC, PAC, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, soldering, brazing, thermal gouging, structural and pipe welding.
Note: Applicants selected for interviewing will be required to demonstrate welding ability and pass applicable weld tests.
WEL 1000: Associate degree or higher OR 2000 hours experience in managing/leading/operating under an industrial safety program OR a current relevant industry safety certification or licensure.
WEL 1001, 1003, 1010, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2024, 2030, 2031, 2050, 2089: Associate degree or higher and 4000 hours of verifiable industry occupational welding experience outside of teaching; demonstrable expertise in specified welding processes and materials; certifications may be demonstrated through AWS, ASME, API, AWWA, portfolio, transcripts, or demonstrations.
May be obtained within the first three years of hire if occupational experience and demonstrable expertise requirements are met at hire.
WEL 1075, 1076, 1077, 2075, 2076, 2077: Meet WEL 1000 requirements and 4,000 hours of verifiable welding experience; demonstrate expertise in specified processes and materials.
