Job summary

Luna Community College is seeking a Welding Instructor in the Career and Technical Education department.   • Implements techniques to facilitate student active learning.
  • Grading assignments, tests and quizzes; develops learning aids.
  • Participates in course learning outcomes assessment and uses data to improve teaching.
  • Participates in program and curriculum development and innovations.
  • Participates in hiring and scheduling part-time instructors.
  • Provides one-to-one student guidance and advisement for degree audits and tutoring referrals.
  • Participates in professional development and committee work.

Job description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for instructing students in required Welding courses necessary for the pursuit of certificate(s), associate degree(s) and to American Welding Society certifications in Welding. The incumbent in this role will be required to complete all required and necessary assessment related to the course(s) taught at the requires of the College/Academic Director as it relates to accreditation and assessment. In conjunction with the department director, this position is responsible for course assessment, evaluation of data, program innovation, growth, recruitment, articulation, and where appropriate accreditation. The incumbent in this position may be required to travel to satellite locations and/or locations designated by the college for instruction.

Compensation: 38,000 to 42,500

Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares syllabi each semester, chooses textbooks for courses, and adopts textbooks within the institution’s textbook adoption system.
  • Uses the institutions Learning Management System to facilitate student learning for all modalities of instruction.
  • Travels to satellite campuses and local school districts to provide instructional delivery as requested.
  • Implements techniques to facilitate student active learning.
  • Prepares, administers and grades assignments, tests and quizzes; develops handouts and other learning aids.
  • Participates in course learning outcomes assessment each semester and utilize the assessment data

to improve teaching strategies within the program and courses.

  • Participates in program and curriculum development, proposing program improvements and innovations .
  • Participates in hiring and scheduling part-time instructors as assigned.
  • Provides one-to-one student guidance and advisement on topics including regular degree audits, individual tutoring referral, early alert processes and completion goals.
  • Participates in professional development, committee work, and conferences.
  • Operates equipment and performs work related to designated field(s) in Career and Technical Education.
  • Coordinates and schedules student tutors as appropriate.
  • Participates in student recruitment, retention and placement efforts.

07/2026 Career and Technical Education-Welding Instructor

  • Establishes and maintains linkages with appropriate business and industry for partnerships and successful workforce transitions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Proficient in adult learning theory, curriculum development and classroom, laboratory and field presentation techniques.

  • Knowledge of advising methods and techniques
  • Proficient in research methodology and information resources related to designated field(s) of career and technical education studies.
  • Knowledge of basic supervisory and coaching principles and practices
  • Ability to supervise students in work experience settings
  • Ability to creatively innovate curriculum, resolve departmental challenge, and engage in a diverse student population.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and applications including Microsoft Office suite, Google suite and any other applications used by the college.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker stands at least 70 percent of the time.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
  • The worker may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Education, Experience And Licenses
  • AWS certification using (SMAW) is required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Welding is required.
  • Must obtain OSHA 10 certification within 90 days from date of hire.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license without restrictions for the duration of employment.
