Job summary

Wallace Community College seeks an Adjunct Instructor to provide high-quality instruction across assigned courses, in line with approved curricula and accreditation standards. You will support student learning outcomes, maintain accurate records, and contribute to an engaging classroom environment.

Courses may be offered at varying times and locations in response to student demand. A Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours is required; experience with Canvas and multimedia teaching is preferred

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline is required.
  • Experience incorporating multimedia instructional techniques and instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management using Canvas is preferred.
  • Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.

  • Prepare and deliver instructional materials and activities appropriate to the discipline.

Job description

The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in assigned courses, supporting student learning outcomes, maintaining accurate academic records, and contributing to a positive and engaging learning environment. The Adjunct Instructor teaches courses at various times and locations based on student demand, in accordance with the approved curriculum, institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Salary

Adjunct instructors in the academic fields are paid $680.00 per credit hour taught, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Compensation for substitute instructors may vary depending on the duration of the instructional assignment and the instructional division within the College. The College will determine appropriate compensation arrangements for substitute instructors. Part-time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment, which is sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and instructional needs of the College.

Instruction and Student Learning
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course syllabi, curriculum standards, and institutional policies.
  • Prepare and deliver instructional materials, lectures, laboratory activities, clinical experiences, or other learning activities appropriate to the discipline.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and instructional best practices.
  • Encourage critical thinking, problem‑solving, and active participation among students.
Student Assessment and Support
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessments.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain and communicate course expectations and grading criteria.
  • Be reasonably available to students for consultation and academic assistance.
  • Identify and refer students to appropriate support services when needed.
Records and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
  • Submit grades, attendance reports, and other required documentation by established deadlines.
  • Comply with all institutional policies, procedures, and academic regulations.
  • Adhere to accreditation standards and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and training as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success initiatives.
  • Utilize institutional learning management systems and other required technologies.
  • Support institutional goals, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the public.
Additional Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, or other designated supervisor.
Qualifications
  1. Master's degree from an accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline is required.
  2. Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Canvas platform, is preferred.
  3. Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.
