Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and maintains curriculum quality.
  • Maintains attendance records, submits grades timely, and communicates progress to students.
  • Uses technology to enhance instruction and communicates expectations to students.
  • Keeps syllabi up to date and conducts meetings for professional development.

Education

Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematical Sciences
18 semester credit hours of graduate-level Mathematics and/or Statistics
One year of teaching experience in the discipline

Job Description:

The Adjunct – Mathematics/Statistics position provides qualityinstruction and maintains a positive learning environment in theclassroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction andmonitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by theDepartment Chair or other leadership members. The incumbent mustexhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitaskwhile engaging large groups of people with complicatedmaterial



Instruction & Student Learning


  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primaryresponsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum inconjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigorof programs and the quality of instruction.

  • Considers individual differences of students to design andsupport a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates inthe identification of students with academic or other needs andresponds by utilizing an appropriate resource.

  • Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly tostudents the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.

  • Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance withdepartmental policies.

  • Maintains attendance records, determines and submits gradestimely, and in accordance with established policies and proceduresof the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as otherrelevant information to students throughout the semester.

  • Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporatedepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribedmeeting schedule.

  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’performance in achieving course goals and objectives.

  • Engages in periodic meetings with the department, LeadInstructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.



Student Engagement & Advisement


  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.

  • Uses technology to assist in communication with students.

  • Encourages a sense of community among students for learningboth inside and outside the classroom.

  • Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.



Minimum Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or MathematicalSciences

  • One (1) year of teaching experience in the discipline


OR



  • Master's degree in a related field, plus 18 semester credithours of graduate-level Mathematics and/or Statistics, plus oneyear of teaching experience in the discipline.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's concentration or Ph.D. concentration in Mathematics orStatistics

  • Two (2) years of college Mathematics and/or Statisticsinstruction

  • At least one course in the area the applicant will beteaching



Additional Information


  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).

  • Initially, the Adjunct will teach in an in-person modality.Assignments may include online modality after demonstratingsuccessful in-person teaching.

Compensation Details:


Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour


Contact Hour: Two hours equals one contact hour


Hours: Maximum of 12 contact hours per week
