Position Summary

Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean & the Program Chair, the adjunct instructor is responsible for developing and implementing courses in a classroom and laboratory setting for the Agriculture Program. Teaching assignments will include courses such as Ag Management, Livestock, Precision Ag, and Horticulture and Turfgrass.

Essential Functions

• Write course objectives, develop and implement instructional strategies, advise students, monitor and evaluate student progress, and maintain accurate student records.
• Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas.
• Practice and encourage safety.
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory, including lecture, small groups, demonstrations, and laboratory activities.
• Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
• Remain current in developments related to the subject area and improve personal teaching knowledge through conferences, workshops, and self‑study.
• Participate in division and college meetings and committees, including the Workforce Leadership Team.
• Maintain security of college vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials.
• Serve as an academic advisor for students, advising on academic progress and division policies.
• Develop and revise course objectives, content, descriptions, policies, grading structures, and recommend textbooks.
• Act as a member of the Utility Agriculture program, Advanced Technologies & Skilled Trades Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams.
• Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner that projects a positive image of the program and the College.
• Maintain and upgrade classroom/laboratory instructional facilities and equipment.
• Undergo an individual development plan with the Vice President of Instruction or designee.
• Operate audio‑visual equipment, computers, and LMS (e.g., Canvas).
• Provide information and data for budgets, course schedules, vehicle reports, goals, and assessment reports.
• Serve as a substitute instructor within the Agriculture Division when needed.
• Serve as a technical advisor from the Livestock Management & Production program to assist other programs.
• Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
• Work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required; schedule may be modified by the College.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Specific knowledge and experience in Agriculture, specific to the program area.
• Ability to maintain a conducive learning environment and proper order in classroom/laboratory.
• Effective oral and written communication for diverse student populations.
• Design and apply evaluation methods for various learning formats.
• Develop tests, quizzes, and return them promptly.
• Organize and present course material logically and timely.
• Research relevant knowledge and acquire information from reliable sources.
• Conduct classroom and laboratory sessions for the required clock hours.
• Participate in recruiting activities to attract students to Agriculture careers.
• Work cooperatively with the Ag faculty team.
• Stand for up to two hours.
• Communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
• Use basic computer skills.
• Lift and carry up to fifty pounds for short distances and move equipment.
• Perform essential functions with reasonable accommodation or alternative skills.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agriculture Education, or a closely related field.
• Two (2) years of recent verifiable work experience in the agriculture business.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in an Agriculture, Education, or related field.
• Teaching and/or technical instruction experience.
• Two (2) years of recent verifiable experience in management.
