Job description

Adjunct Instructor, Sociology (2026-2027) – PTT

Position held under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Program Chair(s). Instructs students in a variety of Sociology courses in campus classroom, online/remote, hybrid, and/or off-campus settings. Part‑time temporary position for the 2026‑2027 academic year.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to students according to course objectives.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies (lectures, small groups, demonstrations, computer‑assisted instruction) appropriate to student needs.
  • Prepare and administer evaluation instruments; maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, and progress.
  • Assist in gathering and interpreting department assessment data.
  • Promote a culture of belonging and support a safe and respectful environment.
  • Operate and utilize technology as part of the teaching process.
  • Perform related duties and assignments as required.
  • Adapt to varied days, hours, shifts, and locations.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and ability to teach 100‑ and 200‑level sociology courses.
  • Effective communication, use of computer applications, and evaluation methods.
  • Ability to develop and incorporate diverse teaching strategies and techniques.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds for short distances.
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Sociology or a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Sociology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with 6 graduate credits in Sociology and an approved plan to complete a Master’s within 2 years.
  • Experience: at least 18 semester hours or 6 courses/sections of 100/200‑level teaching at secondary or post‑secondary level.
  • Desired: experience teaching online or hybrid formats, using distance‑learning technology, familiarity with Engaged Learning practices, and relevant graduate coursework.
Salary & Benefits

Salary TBD. Part‑time temporary employees eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account; no match provided by the College.

Work Schedule

Part‑time, temporary position with assignments based on program needs. Hours, shifts, days, and locations may vary and be modified as required.
