Instructors will deliver face-to-face instruction with possible remote elements, require a Bachelor’s or Associate degree and two years of related experience, and will help prepare students for certification

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate in a related field with proven teaching competency
• Two years of related occupational experience required
• Experience with electronics and manufacturing is essential
• Ability to troubleshoot electronics, microcontrollers, and basic circuitry
• Knowledge of ISM communications protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, RF LoRa)
• Experience with CAD/CAM and machine operation for manufacturing labs

Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis. as needed. Responsibilities includes teaching developmental and/or college-level courses, which may include distance-learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends.

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia - principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. We are seeking to identify qualified and interested adjunct faculty members in the following teaching disciplines and/or subject areas: ELECTRONICS/MANUFACTURING

The adjunct professor will be responsible for teaching electronics and manufacturing courses in a hands-on experiential format. Professor will have knowledge and application of electronic devices, current microcontrollers, mechanical processes and machinery, and basic communication protocols. Students in these classes build on fundamental electronics and manufacturing skills to troubleshoot, design, and build different projects related to the course material. The instructor will be responsible for making sure the projects focus on industry skills and the materials are provided for students in a timely manner.

• Ability to create positive classroom/lab culture that provides foundational knowledge for electronics and manufacturing courses
• Teach in a hands-on, experiential format
• Knowledge of a basic microcontrollers
• Knowledge of programming languages and how to troubleshoot
• Create open-ended problems for students to solve creatively
• Classroom management of lab-based classrooms, including maintaining equipment and supplies
• Work with students in a diverse environment with a sensitivity to all members of the community.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess expert skills, knowledge, experience and education in the subject area and a history of successful teaching or related experience.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in the field or Associate’s degree in the field with demonstrated competency in the teaching field. In addition, two years of related occupational experience is required.

• Troubleshooting basic circuitry and electronics problems related to transistors and microcontrollers
• C/C++ and Python programming languages
• Use and develop network systems using various ISM communication protocols like WiFi, Bluetooth, RF LoRa, and others
• CNC, Laser Cutter, 3D printer - CAD/CAM design and use of machines
• Prepare students for electronics and mechatronics certification exams
• Help develop project-based modules for students and expand current curriculum

Additional Considerations

• Two years teaching experience, work experience in the field, and experience with on-line teaching.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
