Job summary

Campbell University’s Adult & Online Education division seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Communications in the Second Chance Initiative at Sampson and Anson Correctional Institutions in North Carolina. Classes are held in person once per week and supported by Teams/Zoom.

Applicants must have a graduate degree in Communication Studies (18 graduate hours) and relevant teaching experience in adult, traditional, or online settings.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree with 18 graduate hours in Communication Studies is required.
• Teaching experience in traditional and/or online education is required/desired.
• Experience teaching adult students is required/desired.
• Experience with Blackboard Ultra learning management system is required/desired.
• Ability to travel to Buies Creek, NC for interview and training sessions.
• Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage course materials from learning objectives and provided textbooks.
• Collaborate with the Site Coordinator/Advisor at the correctional facility to manage textbook orders and schedules.
• Teach in-person at Sampson or Anson Correctional Institutions with weekly sessions; support with Teams/Zoom.
• Select and administer tests, assignments, and online discussions to measure learning objectives.
• Complete Powell training prior to teaching and maintain required certifications.
• Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center and Self-Service portal.
• Maintain professional communications with students and staff and respond to inquiries within 48 hours.
• Complete training and background checks for teaching in correctional facilities.

We are currently accepting applications for our pool of dedicated adjunct instructors who reside in North Carolina or northern South Carolina and are eager to make a meaningful impact through education. To be considered for a position in our applicant pool for undergraduate education, applicants must possess a graduate degree (with a minimum of 18 graduate hours from a regionally accredited university) in an area of Communication Studies with a focus on training and development.

All faculty teaching with Adult & Online Education at Campbell University are expected to be highly responsive to student needs and inquiries. Prior to the start of classes, faculty must complete required training focused on both teaching in correctional settings and certification for teaching in adult & online education.

We are currently seeking instructors for courses offered at Sampson and Anson Correctional Institutions, where in-person instruction is held once per week.

• Sampson Correctional class times are either 8:30 AM–11:30 AM or 12:30 PM–3:30 PM
• Anson Correctional class times are either 8:00 AM–10:45 AM or 12:30 PM–3:30 PM

Applicants must be willing to teach in person in at least one of these locations and follow all rules and procedures specific to teaching in a prison environment. Travel reimbursements are available to faculty on a semester basis

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage course materials from learning objectives and selected textbook provided by the department chair.
• Collaborate with the Campbell University Site Coordinator/Advisor at the correctional facility to manage textbook orders, coordinate schedule adjustments, and address requests related to the correctional setting.
• Courses are conducted in person and supported by technology such as Teams, Zoom, etc.
• Select and administer tests, assignments and online discussion exercises that permit measurement of performance relative to the course learning objectives.
• Campbell University’s Powell training must be completed prior to teaching the course.
• Evaluate and assess student performance.
• Mandatory Information Technology Security Training (Virtual)
• Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center as well as Campbell’s Self-Service portal.
• Maintain professional communications with students and staff at all times.
• Regularly check Campbell University technology systems (email, self-service, etc) and respond in a timely manner to faculty and staff requests for information.
• Respond promptly, no later than 48 hours, to student messages and requests for assistance.
• Complete training and background checks required to teach within the Correctional facilities.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
• Uphold, and abide by, Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security, including, but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal guidelines
• Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice by the campus Director, Dean or Assistant Dean of Online Education.

Education/Experience:

• To be considered for a position in our applicant pool, applicant must possess a graduate degree in an in-demand area with a minimum of 18 graduate hours from an accredited university is required. In addition to the graduate degree, expertise in teaching the subject matter is desired. All graduate work must be documented with official transcripts submitted to the university upon request
• Teaching experience in traditional and/or online education is required/desired
• Experience in teaching adult students is required/desired
• Experience working with BlackboardUltra learning management system is required/desired
• Industry experience is desired
• Ability to travel to the main campus at Buies Creek, N.C. for interview and training sessions
• Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired
