Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA in Ventura, CA is seeking a Part-Time Programs Instructor to referee, coach, and supervise sports programs while upholding YMCA policies and ensuring child safety. You will help create a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests.

The role involves emergency response, equipment setup, inclusive instruction, and delivering exceptional customer service, with required certifications and ongoing staff trainings to support growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor
• Previous work experience in related field preferred
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire

Responsibilities

• Refereeing, coaching, and supervising sports programs
• Enforce YMCA policy and procedures
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA policies and complete incident reporting
• Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices
• Set up and put away equipment before and after sports programs
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members
• Participate in in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order; report any concerns
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
• Support the annual campaign process including education of members
• Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse; report and respond per policies
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided

What does a Programs Instructor do?
