Job summary

Ventura Family YMCA in Ventura, CA is seeking a part‑time Programs Instructor. You will referee, coach, and supervise sports programs, ensuring safety and inclusivity for all participants.

You will maintain certifications, follow YMCA policies, and deliver excellent customer service while collaborating with staff to create welcoming environments and timely program execution.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Previous work experience in related field preferred.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs.
• Enforce and follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
• Respond to emergency situations and complete incident reporting.
• Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices.
• Set up and take down equipment before and after programs.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members.
• Participate in in-service trainings and maintain required certifications.
• Create a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all members and guests.
• Work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team.
• Report any facility or equipment concerns to maintain safety.

What does a Programs Instructor do?

• Responsible for refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs
• Enforce and follow all Channel Islands YMCA policy and procedures
• Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete incident reporting
• Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices
• Set up and put away equipment before and after sports programs
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members
• Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
• Support the annual campaign process including education of members
• Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided
