Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking an entry-level Programs Instructor for Montecito Family YMCA in Santa Barbara, CA. This part-time position involves refereeing, coaching, and supervising sports programs while upholding YMCA policies.

You will lead inclusive instruction, set up equipment, respond to emergencies, maintain certifications, and deliver outstanding customer service to members. Must be 16+ with provided training and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Able to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire.
• Previous work experience in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and put away equipment before and after programs.

• Create a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all members and guests.
• Collaborate respectfully as part of a staff team.
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are safe and report concerns.
• Maintain certifications and pursue professional growth opportunities.
• Support the annual campaign process including member education.
• Understand role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse.
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs.

What does a Programs Instructor do?

• Responsible for refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs
• Enforce and follow all Channel Islands YMCA policy and procedures
• Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete incident reporting
• Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices
• Set up and put away equipment before and after sports programs
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members
• Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
• Support the annual campaign process including education of members
• Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided
