Job summary

Murdoch Center in North Carolina seeks a crafts-focused technician to design, fabricate and modify adaptive equipment and devices, including helmets, wheelchairs, seating aids and orthotics. You will repair and deliver items, inspect inventory, follow drawings and instructions, and support staff with carpentry, upholstery and tool use in a daytime 8:00–5:00 schedule.

Qualifications

About Us

Description of Work

The primary purpose of this position is to collaborate with the para-professionals and licensed professionals to design, fabricate and modify adaptive equipment and devices, inclusive of, but not limited to, special protective devices (i.e. helmets, arm and leg wraps, cuffs, mittens, restraints, etc..), mobility and positioning aids (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, bathing/toileting chairs, wedges, belts, mechanical lifts, etc...), prescribed footwear and orthotic devices. This individual will also repair and deliver the aforementioned items as needed or requested by division and department staff and participate in inspection and inventory management of the same.

ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
  • Recruitment Range: $35,596.00 - $62,294.00
  • Basic carpentry skills, basic upholstery skills and good ability to use hand and power tools are necessary for this job due to the fine tolerances needed for special protective device fabrication and modification.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, including the addition and subtraction of fractions and currency.
  • The ability to follow verbal, written and sketched instructions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to lift light to heavy loads.
  • Requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience working with intellectually and developmentally delayed people.

  • Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Minimum Education and Experience
