Job summary

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona is seeking an Acute Pharmacy Technician to assist with packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping under pharmacist supervision. The role supports a busy hospital pharmacy, ensuring accurate medication handling and patient care.

The position requires active Pharmacy Technician licensure or Pharmacy Intern licensure in AZ, and may involve Registry/Per Diem work with flexible schedules and per-diem eligibility.

Qualifications

• Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
• Arizona license Wallet Card at time of hire is required.
• Ability to perform moderate to difficult mathematical calculations.
• Knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software and automated dispensing systems.
• Strong customer service focus and effective communication with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Identifies medications for reorder to maintain continuous inventory.
• Manages users within automated dispensing technology database and troubleshoots malfunctions.
• Interacts with patients, visitors and staff with strong customer service.
• Restocks medications to nursing and ancillary areas after pharmacist check when allowed by policy.
• Prepares non-sterile compounded medications and documents procedures per policy.
• Maintains safe, clean work environment and performs quality control activities.
• Handles narcotics per federal and legal requirements and maintains stock documentation.
• Performs sterile/non-sterile compounding following USP guidelines and documents tasks.
