Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our Palliative Medicine Department. This position involves a mix of ambulatory and inpatient care, including inpatient rounding with some call responsibilities.

Schedule: Monday - Friday (open to 9/10-hour days with fewer days per week, except during call weeks)

Call: Monday - Sunday; every 6-7 weeks, with two days off following call week

Locations: Grayslake, Lake Forest, Glenview (rotation between sites)

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise through patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of health problems.
  • Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals.
  • Develops educational systems for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentors graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement and research activities.
Responsibilities
  • Conducts health assessments, histories, and physical exams.
  • Provides direct clinical care and prescribes medications and therapies.
  • Orders and interprets lab tests, x-rays, and procedures.
  • Evaluates patient needs for further care.
  • Provides education to patients and families.
  • Documents all care and procedures.
  • Refers to other disciplines and consults as needed.
  • Integrates research and clinical expertise in decision-making.
  • Maintains professionalism and advocates for patients and families.
  • Maintains certifications and continuing education.
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor.
  • Participates in quality improvement and research initiatives.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or Physician Assistant Program from an accredited school.
  • Acute care certification for APRNs.
  • Current Illinois RN license and APRN license, or Physician Assistant license.
  • Credentialed through Northwestern Medicine MSO.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 2 years of ambulatory or inpatient experience.
