Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant-Palliative Medicine, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine invites applications for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Palliative Medicine Department. This role involves a combination of ambulatory and inpatient care, including inpatient rounding and some call responsibilities.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, with flexible 9/10-hour days and fewer days per week, except during call weeks.

Call: Monday - Sunday, approximately every 6-7 weeks, with two days off following a call week.

Locations: Rotating between Grayslake, Lake Forest, and Glenview sites.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide expert clinical care, including diagnosis and management of health problems.
  • Manage health outcomes for an assigned patient population.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals.
  • Develop educational resources for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
  • Engage in quality improvement and research activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct health assessments and physical examinations.
  • Deliver direct patient care.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies, and interpret lab and imaging results.
  • Evaluate patient needs for further care.
  • Educate patients and families comprehensively.
  • Document all care activities thoroughly.
  • Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Consult as an expert in your area.
  • Incorporate research and clinical expertise into decision-making.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Advocate for patients, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Maintain required certifications and ongoing education.
  • Participate in committees, education, and quality initiatives.
  • Serve as a preceptor and role model for students.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Acute care certification for APRNs.
  • Current Illinois RN license, APRN license, and national certification.
  • Credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in ambulatory or inpatient settings.
