Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Cardiac Surgery - VAD Coordinator, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient Cardiac Surgery department as a VAD Coordinator. This full-time role involves a schedule of 3x13 hours shifts (80 hours per pay period), Monday through Friday, with night, weekend, and holiday call responsibilities (remote or on-site).

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in patient evaluation and selection for advanced therapies
  • Manage outpatient call, clinical management, and care coordination (shared call)
  • Inpatient discharge planning and care coordination
  • Provide education to VAD patients and caregivers
  • Oversee education for acute care staff and community resources
  • Maintain VAD statistical databases and registries
  • Manage equipment and supplies
  • Prepare for Joint Commission certification
  • Engage in community outreach on VAD safety
  • Act as liaison among surgeons, cardiologists, industry partners, and patients
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited nursing or Physician Assistant program
  • Acute care certification for APRNs
  • Current Illinois RN and APRN licenses or Physician Assistant license
  • Credentialed through NMH Medical Staff Office
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Relevant experience in MCS or cardiac surgery preferred; new grads with relevant experience considered
