Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our Heart Failure Cardiology Department. This position involves both inpatient rounding and outpatient clinic work.

Schedule
  • Monday - Friday; 5-8 hour days
  • Weekend call rotation required (Saturday and Sunday; 7:00am-12:00pm)
  • Approximately 1.15 weeks per year (about 4 times)
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and broad knowledge through patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of various health problems.
  • Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals.
  • Develops educational programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentors graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement and research activities relevant to the area of expertise.
Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive health assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
  • Provides direct clinical care and prescribes medications and therapies.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures.
  • Evaluates patients to determine further healthcare needs.
  • Provides education to patients and families.
  • Documents all care and procedures in the medical record.
  • Refers patients to other disciplines as needed.
  • Serves as a consultant and role model in areas of expertise.
  • Incorporates research and clinical knowledge into decision-making.
  • Maintains professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Advocates for patients and the community.
  • Maintains necessary certifications and continuing education.
  • Participates in committees and quality initiatives.
  • Provides education to internal and external groups.
  • Precepts students and new staff.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited nursing or Physician Assistant program.
  • Acute care certification for APRNs or inpatient experience considered in lieu.
  • Current Illinois RN license and APRN license or Physician Assistant license.
  • Credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Cardiology experience (including as an RN).
  • Heart Failure experience.
