Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant-Oncology, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine offers an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in our Hematology/Oncology Department. This primarily inpatient role involves working Monday to Friday during daytime hours, with no call responsibilities. The position is mainly based at McHenry Hospital, with possible cross coverage at Huntley.

Essential Functions
  • Provide expert clinical care, including diagnosis and management of various health issues.
  • Manage health outcomes for an assigned patient population.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop educational programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentor graduate students and participate in quality improvement and research activities.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations.
  • Deliver direct clinical care and prescribe medications and therapies.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Educate patients and families thoroughly.
  • Document all care and procedures accurately.
  • Refer patients to other disciplines as needed and serve as a clinical resource.
  • Incorporate research and clinical expertise into decision-making.
  • Maintain professional appearance and advocate for patients and the community.
  • Keep certifications current and participate in ongoing education.
  • Serve as a role model and participate in committee activities and staff development programs.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited nursing or Physician Assistant program.
  • Acute care certification for APRNs or inpatient experience considered in lieu.
  • Current Illinois RN and APRN licenses, or Physician Assistant license.
  • Certification by a recognized national body for APRNs.
  • Privileges through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
