Job summary

Chesapeake Place Senior Living in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Part-time Activity Assistant to support activities for our elderly residents. You will work with the Activities Director to create engaging programs that meet spiritual, cultural, physical, intellectual, and social needs.

The role requires experience with seniors, especially those with dementia; strong organization, energy, and kindness; and willingness to operate AV equipment and assist with events.

Qualifications

• Experience with seniors, including those with dementia.
• Excellent organization and planning to coordinate activities.
• Valid First Aid certification required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Activities Director by planning and implementing events.
• Promote resident attendance at activities and programs.
• Assist with group activities and exercise classes.
• Decorate for holidays and special occasions.
• Conduct activity programs as assigned.
• Assist residents with gardening projects.
• Maintain punctuality and reliable attendance.

Essential Functions:

• Support the mission, vision, and culture of the organization.
• Perform activities on schedule while maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.
• Promote resident’s attendance at events and activities
• Assist with planning and implementing events and activities.
• Assist with group activities, sing-a-longs, and exercise classes
• Conduct activity programs as assigned.
• Assist residents with gardening projects.
• Assist with decorations for holidays and special occasions.

Skills

• Experience in activities with seniors who have dementia or in a senior retirement community
• Great organization, planning, and engaging/re-directing seniors
• Great energy and kindness
• Operate a VCR, DVD, and stereo system.
• High School diploma or equivalent certificate
• Must possess valid First Aid Certification

Work Schedule:

• Day shift
• Weekend availability
