Pay Range: $17.48 - $21.17/hour
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Life Enrichment Director, plan, organize, and direct therapeutic active living programs to effect improvement in the physical, mental, and social well-being of skilled nursing and assisted living residents. Activity Assistants will promote the spiritual, emotional, educational, recreational and social needs of residents on an individual basis.
Essential Functions
- Assists in designing, planning, organizing, and implementing therapeutic recreation programs including activities such as exercise, music, games, socials, arts & crafts, sensory stimulation, and outings. Will be oriented to programs in Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Traditions/Memory Care and will be required to provide programming on those units as assigned.
- Develops, organizes, and posts a monthly calendar for residents based on therapeutic, educational, and diversionary needs, complying with state, federal, and corporate guidelines.
- Consults with multidisciplinary team to assess recreational needs of residents.
- Completes recreation interviews and assessments for each resident in accordance with Title 22, OBRA, and MDS guidelines, developing goals with measurable objectives based on assessments from residents, families, and chart reviews.
- Maintains daily logs and data regarding residents' involvement in programs when appropriate.
- Coordinates with Nursing and C.N.A staff in preparing residents for recreation activities and notifies Nursing of any immediate changes in residents' condition or participation.
- Maintains resident safety during off-campus outings.
- Keeps updated on current federal and state regulations and professional standards, recommending policy and procedure changes as needed.
- Coordinates the work of Activity Assistants and volunteers.
- Develops and implements special activities for visually and hearing-impaired residents, including individual projects and programs.
- Completes event requests for environmental and dietary needs for specified events punctually.
- Maintains regular attendance, punctuality, and flexibility with work hours, including weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
- Attends staff meetings and in-services, completes online safety trainings by deadlines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Adheres to safety policies, attends relevant trainings, and practices safety protocols at all times.
Requirements
Skills, abilities, and experience include:
- Minimum of six months to one year recent experience in a healthcare recreation or activity program, caring for the elderly and those with dementia.
- Knowledge of compliance with state and federal laws, Title 22, and experience with MDS.
Educational requirements include:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Community College Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent from an accredited college.
- Certification with NCTRS, RTC, or eligibility to sit for the exam and commitment to certification.
- Current BLS and First Aid certifications from an accredited organization.
- Clean driving record.
