Job Summary
The Life Enrichment Associate assists the Life Enrichment Director with designing programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills for residents. This position assists with conducting the scheduled activities of the life enrichment department to deliver high-quality programming and services consistent with regulations and established best practices. Conduct consistently reflects the facility’s mission ad values.

Qualifications
  • High School graduate.
  • 1-2 years prior experience in social or recreation programming in long-term care preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a physical examination and obtain medical clearance to operate facility bus.
  • Must be able to pass a State of Minnesota Department of Human Services criminal background study, as well as a United States Office of the Inspector General exclusion search.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct a comprehensive program of leisure life/life enrichment services for residents, under the direction of the Life Enrichment Director.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, and staff to develop, plan and implement programs that meet the psychosocial and activities needs of residents.
  • Assist the Life Enrichment Director to establish systems and processes for management of events.
  • Provide input to the Life Enrichment Director regarding life enrichment programs based on resident assessment, needs, interest/preference, regulations and established procedures and best practices.
  • Participate in resident care planning with the team and other health care providers, as directed by the Life Enrichment Director.
  • Maintain resident activity documentation in accordance with regulations and facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication systems with all customers.
  • Serve as a life enrichment/leisure resource and advocate for the facility.
  • Treats and ensures that residents are treated with respect and dignity
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential
  • Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect per facility policy
  • Is familiar with fire and disaster regulations and procedures, participates in drills.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions to designated employee, including knowledge of Lockout/Tagout Policy and Procedure.
  • Participates in Unit Quality & Safety Meetings, as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Occasionally pushes or pulls residents 300-600 feet with weight resistance equivalent to 35 pounds. Occasionally twists, stoops, bends, squats, kneels. Occasionally lifts and carries equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 pounds. Frequently climbs stairs. Frequently reaches above or at shoulder level. 70% of shift is indoors/30% outdoors (weather permitting) 10% of shift is sitting, and 50% is standing, 40% walking.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in English orally and in writing with residents and staff. Must be able to read small print in typed and written material. Must use Matrix Care medical record.
  • Possesses necessary skills to continuously comprehend and communicate with residents, co-workers, and to respond to emergency alarms.
  • Concentrates with frequent interruptions and remembers multiple messages, information and task assignments to perform a variety of tasks during an eight hour or longer periods of time.
