Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Implementation/Activation Networks Engineer to support enterprise network equipment logistics, data center readiness, and hardware lifecycle across a large government enterprise. You will be responsible for installation, validation, and activation of network and security devices, with emphasis on data center and edge infrastructure.

Daily tasks include equipment staging, rack-and-stack, cabling validation, and post-install verification, with quarterly travel to Co-Lo

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or related technical discipline; 5–8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise network hardware installation, activation, maintenance, lifecycle, or data center infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of OSI model, Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP addressing, VLANs, routing, switching, and network concepts.
• Proven ability to install, rack-mount, cable, label, troubleshoot, and replace network/security equipment in production environments.
• Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, F5 load balancing, and related technologies.
• Ability to read and maintain rack elevations, port maps, topology diagrams, and hardware/asset documentation.
• Proficient in analyzing packet captures using Wireshark or similar tools.
• Ability to develop and execute installation, validation, testing, and back-out procedures; produce clear documentation.
• Must be able to pass government Tier 4 background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware installation, rack-and-stack, cabling, labeling, and activation activities.
• Validate equipment against deployment requirements and BOMs; maintain asset records.
• Configure, test, validate, and document network connectivity and device reachability.
• Provide Tier IV troubleshooting for hardware, cabling, power, and network issues.
• Travel quarterly to four Co-Lo facilities for maintenance and validation.
