HX5, LLC at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio, is seeking a part-time Acoustics Research Engineer to analyze noise from transonic jet flows using COMSOL Multiphysics. The role involves investigating GJWs in Mach 0.95 jets, validating phenomena, and identifying frequency ranges for amplification or suppression.

The candidate must have exceptional jet acoustics expertise, strong data analysis skills, and a proven ability to communicate results in publications and presentations.

Qualifications

• Exceptional knowledge and experience with jet acoustics analysis.
• Specialized experience using COMSOL to evaluate guided jet wave physics.
• Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex datasets from test campaigns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a record of high-quality publications and presentations.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
• High motivation, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
• Familiarity with Federal regulations for aircraft noise emissions is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Investigate how acoustic excitation parameters influence GJWs in a Mach 0.95 jet.
• Reproduce and validate GJW phenomena using COMSOL Multiphysics.
• Identify frequency ranges where upstream GJWs are amplified or suppressed.
• Verify linear scaling and superposition with respect to source strength.
• Evaluate source placement as a control parameter for GJW modes.
• Investigate phased or multi-source configurations to suppress GJW modes.
• Document, report, and present results clearly and concisely.
