Job summary

HX5, LLC at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio, is seeking a part-time Acoustics Research Engineer to analyze noise from transonic jet flows using COMSOL Multiphysics. The role involves investigating GJWs in Mach 0.95 jets, validating phenomena, and identifying frequency ranges for amplification or suppression.

The candidate must have exceptional jet acoustics expertise, strong data analysis skills, and a proven ability to communicate results in publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

HX5 at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio is currently seeking a part-time temporary Acoustics Research Engineer with experience in the analysis of noise generated from transonic jet flows.
The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:

• Investigate how acoustic excitation parameters influence the generation, amplification, and suppression of guided jet waves (GJWs) in a Mach 0.95 jet.
• Reproduce and validate reported GJW phenomena using the COMSOL Multiphysics software package.
• Identify frequency ranges in which upstream-propagating GJWs are maximally amplified and those in which they are naturally suppressed.
• Verify linear scaling and superposition behavior of the numerical model with respect to source strength.
• Evaluate the use of source placement as a control parameter for enhancing or suppressing GJW modes.
• Investigate whether phased or multiple-source configurations can suppress upstream propagating GJW modes.
• Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely.

Education:
Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree and twenty (20) or more years of relevant experience
• Master of Science degree and fifteen (15) years of relevant experience
• Ph D. and ten (10) years of relevant experience
  

Other Position Requirements:

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
