Job summary

West Ottawa Public Schools is seeking a Staff Accountant, Accounts Payable Posting to join the Central Office. The role reports to the Director of Finance and begins immediately, handling AP processing, requisitions, POs, and vendor communications.

The ideal candidate has an accounting/finance background, strong Excel skills, familiarity with GAAP, and the ability to work independently with accuracy and confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's in accounting/finance or associate with commensurate experience.
• Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office; familiarity with accounting systems.
• Knowledge of school fund accounting and GAAP.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; confidentiality.
• Ability to prioritize and work independently; reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Process and enter invoices into Munis (REP accounting system).
• Enter requisitions and create purchase orders in Munis.
• Sort and match invoices to purchase orders.
• Review invoices for account number accuracy and obtain signatures.
• Distribute incoming invoices to appropriate staff in business office.
• Ensure timely and accurate entry of all payments in Munis.
• Balance accounts payable checks against reports; prepare checks for mailing.
• Maintain communications with vendors and inform departments of discrepancies.
• Track outstanding checks monthly; process and file year-end 1099s.
